I absolutely love these XO Valentines Wreaths! While I did not invent this wreath, I put my own spin on it! I had seen a wreath similar to these online using white berry branches for the X and red berry branches for the O, I wanted to make two of these wreaths one for my sister and one a little more contemporary for my front door. I chose to use a red berry wreath I already had on hand for my sisters’ wreath and I used white Styrofoam X’s and O for my wreath. These wreaths were incredibly easy to make and inexpensive.
Supplies you will need for your XO Valentines Wreaths:
Pink Ribbon
Styrofoam X & O
Red Berry wreath (optional)
White Thread or fishing line
How to make:
- Cut a length of white thread and loop it around your X so your X will hang individually from the hook on your door, leaving a little space at the top for your bow.
- Cut a second length of thread and loop it through the O position this to be directly under your X tie the thread off so the thread will be at the appropriate length to keep the O right below the X.
- Once you make a bow cut a second length of ribbon for your ribbon tail that will go behind the X and O cutting the ribbon just above the bottom of the O.
- Sew this length of ribbon tail to the back of your bow and sew a loop on the back so your bow can hang.
How to assemble: (The use of black and green “thread” in the below graphic is for instructional purposes only, you should use white thread or fishing line for your project)
- Hang the bow first
- Hang the O
- Finally hang the X
The hardest part of creating this wreath was making the bow! You can use thread to loop the O to the X if you want, the reason I did this in three layers is because I used the berry wreath for the O first and found the berry wreath was too heavy to hang from the X without cutting into the Styrofoam. I would recommend using fishing line if you have it instead of thread too, you can see the white thread over the pink ribbon but only when looking at it up close, the fishing line would blend better!
If you don’t have or want to use Styrofoam letting you can use cardboard letters or even metal! I would LOVE to do this XO Valentines wreath in metal lettering, it would be so industrial!
